A £22 million project designed to resolve the accommodation needs of Westminster Adult Education Service faces an uncertain future as Labour ministers continue to withhold £9.2 million of capital funding.
Since the decision to freeze the approval process for all Further Education College building projects was taken last December, a total of 144 projects have been put on hold. Two weeks ago, Labour ministers announced that only 13 colleges were to be given the funds to go ahead with their proposals.
Joanne Cash is deeply concerned by recent developments:
“Parents and students throughout Westminster North will rightly be very disappointed by this latest announcement. This is a terrible waste of money already spent.
At a time when unemployment levels are rising and the development of new skills is absolutely critical, this Government is placing Westminster North students’ futures in jeopardy by freezing the very building projects to which they encouraged our colleges and education centres to commit.”
